On Saturday, November 21, hundreds of the region’s top business and community leaders will come together to launch a celebration of 100 years of serving children, families, seniors and adults in South Florida. The YMCA of South Florida 100th Anniversary Celebration Gala will be held at the iconic Turnberry Isle Miami Resort. Leading the festivities as Gala Co-Chairs are philanthropists Robert J. “Robin” Shelley, III and his wife, Susan; former NFL player Dwight Stephenson and his wife Dinah, co-business owners and philanthropists; CPA Joaquin Urquiola and his wife, attorney and business owner Joanne; and attorney Kurt Zimmerman and his wife Patty Hooley Zimmerman, automotive business owner

One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from the event will be directed toward financial assistance for underserved children, youth and families, and other important initiatives such as drowning and chronic disease prevention. Annually, the YMCA serves more than 250,000 people through programs that nurture the potential of youth, improve the community’s health and wellbeing, and giving back to neighbors in need.

“This event represents a major milestone for the YMCA in South Florida,” said Sheryl Woods, President & CEO of the YMCA of South Florida. “For a hundred years, the YMCA has been a part of this community, providing resources and guidance that not only strengthened the community, but also helped build a healthy community – spirit, mind and body. We’re so excited to kick off a year of community events and activities that commemorate our founding in 1916 and recognize the volunteers, members and partnerships that are such an important part of this extraordinary organization. Having the support of well-known families like the Shelleys, Stephensons, Urquiolas and Zimmermans makes it all the more special.”

The 100th Anniversary Gala is a black-tie affair, and will include national and local celebrities and guests, plus a reception, music and entertainment by the band Heatwave, dancing, and special tributes to notable South Florida leaders who have supported the Y.
