Wonderful things are happening at NSE Sunny Isles Beach K-8Wonderful, dedicated teachers; a caring supportive community; involved, concerned parents and outstanding students are just some of the things I am thankful for this holiday season. This combination of talented people should be very proud of all the things they have accomplished this year at Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K8. From academics to the arts we have a winning track record that any principal would be proud to share.

In November our students participated in a District-wide Math Bonanza and walked away with many individual and team awards. The teachers and students were most proud of their award for 1st Place Team in the 4th – 6th Division and the 1st Place award for 8th Grade Individual which Shaayan Subzwari earned.

We also conducted our Science Fair for both the elementary and middle school students. At the Awards Assembly we recognized our participants as well as our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners at each grade level. Now that list has been narrowed and the very best projects will be entered in the Regional competition. We are very excited about our scientific accomplishments.

Our young authors continue to participate in various contests. This year Nour Abdrabo once again was recognized for her writing skills. This year she placed second place in the Cervantes Outstanding Student Essay Contest. We look forward to hearing the results of other writing contests that our students entered.

Finally, our very productive art students have been honored for their works in the following contests: Superintendent’s Holiday Card, Hispanic Heritage, Fantastic Fabrications, Red Ribbon and the 29th Annual Impressions in Water Color Exhibition. Brandon Goldberg, 3rd grade student, won the Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Festival Poster Contest and his entry was published as the poster commemorating the 7th annual SIB Jazz Festival. Brandon will also be starring in the Aventura Young Stars Showcase in December. Kudos to all the students and their teachers for a job well done!

In recognition of the number of volunteer hours our school has accrued, NSE SIB K8 received the Golden School Award for the sixth year in a row. This award is very special because it acknowledges the significant number of hours our parents dedicate to the school. We truly appreciate their contribution to our school and are pleased that they are applauded in this way.

Each week we recognize our avid Accelerated Reader winners and encourage our students to meet their reading goals. This month we will be hosting our annual spelling bee contests and field days and I look forward to sharing the results of those with you as well. Every day is special at NSE SIB K8. Our calendar is full of activities that support student learning and encourage creativity in the arts. I just know the second half of the year will be filled with equally exciting explorations into the world of knowledge.
