If you are a cancer survivor or caregiver, please be sure to arrive at 6:00 p.m. and join us at the opening ceremonies and walk in the Cancer Survivor’s Victory Lap. There also will be a special area for survivors where they will receive special VIP treatment.
Silent auction items include a purple (the cancer-survivor color) 1970 Dodge Dart with any amount in excess of $20,000 being donated to the American Cancer Society, jewelry and gift certificates from local businesses including hotel stays, spa treatments, and restaurants. You may also honor a loved one by purchasing a luminaria, a small illuminated bag bearing the name of the honored and placed trackside. The luminaria ceremony will be held on Saturday at 9:00 p.m.
While you are there, learn about becoming a part of medical history by enrolling in the free Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). The purpose of the grassroots study is to better understand the lifestyle, behavioral, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer and to ultimately eliminate cancer as a major health problem for this and future generations. The ultimate goal is to enroll at least 300,000 adults from various racial/ethnic backgrounds from across the United States. If you cannot make it to the Relay, please go to www.seeuthere.com/cps3enroll/dademonroefl to enroll and find out more.
It is not too late to become a personal or corporate sponsor (beginning at $100), volunteer the day of the event, form or join a team, make a donation, or donate an item for the silent auction.
