Mount Sinai Medical Center offers reduced rate mammograms during the month of May

Sunday, May 10, 2015 is Mother’s Day. As we celebrate the special women in our lives, Mount Sinai Medical Center is urging area residents to show their mothers they care by reminding them to get a mammogram. While it may not sound like a traditional Mother’s Day gift, having a simple conversation about having a mammogram could help save a life.

Mount Sinai recognizes the importance of preventive breast health and is committed to providing the most comprehensive breast care. That is why during the month of May, Mount Sinai is pleased to offer digital screening mammograms for only $50 and digital diagnostic mammograms for $100, with a prescription. Those who have insurance can actually obtain a screening mammogram any time throughout the year free of charge, with no co-payment or deductible required. Women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection of breast cancer through screenings improves the chances that breast cancer can be diagnosed at an early stage and treated successfully.

Patients can choose from two convenient locations in which to schedule their reduced rate mammograms. The Lila and Harold Menowitz Breast Center located on the Mount Sinai Miami Beach campus provides screening, diagnostics, treatment and support services for breast health, and has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology as a result of its focus on service, research, technology and expertise. The Gail S. Posner Women’s Center located on the Mount Sinai Aventura campus provides advanced diagnostic technology and treatment options, such as digital mammography, breast, pelvic and obstetric ultrasound, as well as ultrasound-guided procedures, all in a beautiful spa-like setting. The Posner Women’s Center also offers bone densitometry, body composition assessment, CT and Open MRI scan capabilities and a full service lab.

And, Mount Sinai has the distinction of being the first breast center in Florida to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. This accreditation is given only to those centers that have passed a rigorous evaluation, demonstrated they can comply with the accreditation program’s high standards and are committed to providing the highest quality care in breast disease diagnosis, treatment, support and follow-up care.
