On Saturday, Nov. 16 the vocalists presenting a “Tribute to Women in Jazz” were treated to a beautiful evening and a responsive crowd. If the event had been held indoors, the reviewers would have proclaimed that the ladies performed to “a packed house” and the soaring vocals would have “raised the roof”. As it was, all that upward bound joyous musical energy became an added perk to the residents with balconies overlooking the park.
The ladies of jazz: Nicole Yarling, Wendy Pedersen, Paulette Dozier and Ashley Moss, all gave individual stellar performances singing familiar favorites. The crowd was obviously into the music and showed their appreciation for the quality of the singing. In the open air venue, jazz aficionados could stand in line to satisfy their taste buds, while continuing to listen to the music. The Melton Mustafa Orchestra hit every note true. Those talented musicians at the top of their game complimented the ladies nicely, pushing every song to the pinnacle of perfection.
All of the singers came together on stage at the end of the evening for a giant jam session. It was icing on the cake and left the audience wishing for more. Next year’s Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest will be on stage at Heritage Park again before we know it. Be sure to join us next year for another unforgettable evening.
