In front of the largest gathering of people to ever attend the Law Enforcement Officers Awards Gala, several Sunny Isles Beach Police Department officers won awards for superior achievement in their categories. More than 900 people attended the 11th Annual Gala ceremony at the Miami Beach Convention Center on March 5, 2011. It has been billed as the Academy Awards of Law Enforcement for Miami-Dade County since no one knows the winner until the “envelope” is opened and the winners revealed.

It was a very successful night for the nominees of your” Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. Of the 4 nominees and finalists, 3 of the 4 won in their respective groups. In addition a very special award given by the L.E.O. committee was presented to Captain Dwight Snyder for his continued charitable work in the community and for families of slain officers.

The following Sunny Isles Beach Police Department officers were presented their L.E.O. Award statues.

PERSONNEL AWARD

Crime Prevention and  Community Policing

*Selected for their tireless efforts in support of charitable programs, helping the homeless, needy families and service above and beyond, “The Sunny Isles Beach Way”!

Sgt. Dan Gnagi Safety Award

* Selected for his maintaining the safety in and around our school for parents, students and residents alike, specifically related to traffic safety.

Corporal Rob Ostrov Specialized Services

*This dedicated K-9 Officer was runner-up in this most difficult category, for his service to and other communities in the area of K-9 work. Corporal Ostrov and his K-9 Diesel are adored by children wherever they go to do presentations and K-9 demonstrations.

Captain Dwight Snyder Awards Committee Special Presentation

This generous, caring and dedicated police executive was presented the “Outside the Lines” Award for his tireless efforts in the Community on behalf of the underprivileged, the needy, and the surviving children of officers killed in the line of duty. If there is a charitable event or function to help someone, Snyder is “there for them.”

I am extremely proud of all our officers in Sunny Isles Beach who put on the badge everyday to assist and serve you, the community. When one of us is recognized for specific acts, the whole city and department shares in the joy and reward and excitement, because in this community, we all work together for a common goal – SAFETY FOR ALL!!! Congratulations to all the winners from Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
