NEW SIB COMMUNITY SHUTTLE BUS

The City of Sunny Isles Beach has provided complimentary Shuttle bus service to residents and visitors since 1999. With the help of funds from the United States Department of Transportation, American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), new buses with a fresh look will soon begin serving the Community Shuttle routes.

Using ARRAfunds, Sunny Isles Beach was able to purchase two new buses, replacing older models. The new buses will be covered with a distinctive design so that residents and visitors will recognize them as SIB Community Shuttles.

Three Community Shuttle bus routes service riders within the City, making local stops at residences, as well as grocery stores, pharmacies, and shopping. In addition to local stops, each of the lines (Orange, Green, or Blue) can connect passengers with transportation in neighboring municipalities (these are marked with the Bus2Bus logo). Passengers can utilize the Bus2Bus routes to transfer and continue on to other important destinations, such as Aventura Hospital and Medical Centers through the Aventura Mall Stop; 163 Street Mall and Walmart in North Miami Beach, through the Intracoastal Mall Stop; and Mardi Gras or Walmart in Hallandale, through the Hallandale Fire Station stop. The shuttle buses also provide service through the Special Events Route to City events, to provides patrons with convenient and complimentary transportation to and from the event.

The Shuttle Bus also offers an opportunity for connecting transportation to Surfside as well as Miami Beach (Lincoln Road or Mount Sinai Medical Center). On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, use the South Beach Line (set schedule), to transfer to the Surfside Mini-Bus and continue to Lincoln Road. Additionally, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, make reservations with the Cultural & Community Services Department to arrange complimentary transportation to Mount Sinai Medical Center on 4300 Alton Road. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance, and accommodations will coincide with set pick up times and locations.

So, look around for the new buses and give the Community Shuttle service a try! Bus schedules are available on the bus, at the SIB Government Center, or at Pelican Community Park. To schedule a medical or a handicap pickup, or for more information, please contact the Cultural & Community Services Department at 305.792.1706.
