Respice will debut the compelling work of urban documentary photographer Jerry Kelfer when the lifestyle concept store inaugurates its first SoMi Art Walk season this month. Kelfer’s cosmopolitan exhibit focuses exclusively on New York City. The former CEO of a publicly traded company is now considered an exceptionally keen observer of the human condition. His sharp eye for the dramatic, the colorful and the ironic juxtaposes class, culture and community. Intuitively framed and subtly humorous street scenes become geometric compositions. Familiar settings become inordinate life stages. Vanishing points deftly draw the viewer into the largely of-themoment, candid tableaus as they unfold.
Kelfer, a Boston-born Miamian who makes frequent forays to Manhattan, will be in residence on October 11th to welcome Art Walk patrons to Respice – a very intimate, hip space conceived by partners Gisela Balassa and Alejandro Orestano. The shop’s exceptional collections – featuring accessories, one-of-a-kind lifestyle objects and décor crafted by independent designers, artisans and brands – is a simpatico setting for Kelfer’s metropolitan motifs. Additionally, Respice’s prime location on Sunset Drive (just east of Starbuck’s and immediately west of First National Bank of South Miami) conveniently places Art Walk attendees in the very heart of the South Miami town center.
Art Walk patrons can attend the opening on October 11th between 6 and 9 p.m., enjoy a glass of wine and support the burgeoning South Miami art scene. Kelfer’s captivating images are available for purchase and are expected to be part of the unique Respice landscape through November. Those unable to attend the exhibit’s opening night can view Kelfer’s works during shop hours, and can also make an appointment to meet the photographer at Respice at a mutually agreeable time.
