The chic lingerie, loungewear and swimwear of Eberjey is available at their new retail location in South Miami. The first store to exclusively feature the Eberjey label opened in late July of this year.
The word “lingerie” may conjure up lacy teddies or flowing, ankle-length peignoirs but the original meaning of the word came from the Old French linge, meaning “linen.” By the time the word worked its way into the English language, it had become a euphemism for scandalous underclothing. Nevertheless, from ancient Egyptians to modern day fashion models, lingerie in one form or another has been part of human practicality or adornment for thousands of years.
Founded in 1996 by Ali Mejia and Mariela Rovito, the Eberjey brand is a collection of luxury products designed to be beautiful, flattering and a comfort to wear. Carried by upscale department stores and boutiques in the U.S. and around the world, Eberjey’s lingerie is designed to, as the company states, “Express happiness, love and confidence in all things that make a woman truly beautiful.”
Ali Mejia is the company’s designer and Mariela Rovito, its president. Both women have strong marketing backgrounds. Ali’s mission was to design intimate apparel that flattered a certain body type—her own.
“She wanted to design lingerie and she knew what she wanted,” said Lauren Bitar, Director of Retail for the company.
Turns out that Ms. Mejia’s design skills and eye for all things beautiful appealed to women everywhere. The success of the duo of Mejia and Rovito is evidenced by their label’s appearance in the finest retailers and as featured in magazines such as Brides, Women’s Health and Cosmopolitan.
The small, pleasantly-appointed shop with its array of lingerie has an elegant and somewhat dreamy quality that makes luxury seem more like a right than an indulgence. Unique and highly personalized customer service is one of Eberjey’s hallmarks—a must in the intimate apparel business. In addition to their adult line of thongs, bralets (minus the annoying underwire), camis, boy shorts, pajamas, loungewear and swimwear, the shop carries their new line of “Mini-E” fashions for the very young girl. Other products are available too, further fueling that desire to self-pamper: TOCCA candles, Matta scarves and Citrine jewelry. TOCCA candles are perfect for any home; their simple and soothing scents are made of a superior wax formula that ensures a long and even burn. Matta handmade scarves by designer Cristina Gitti feature simple styling and cutting- edge colors in a variety of fine fabrics. Citrine Jewelry of Miami has elegant and timeless designs that are fashion-forward and suitable to wear for all occasions.
Choosing luxury lingerie is an intensely personal decision based on one’s body type, fashion sense and lifestyle. The girlishlydesigned elegance of Eberjey lingerie appeals to many women and is available in small, medium and large styles. Their line of sleepwear includes sizes up to extra large.
Eberjey is located at 7209 SW 57th Court, just off Sunset Drive in South Miami.
