The Kendall Regional Medical Center (KRMC) has received verification by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), one of four facilities in Florida to gain the endorsement and the only trauma center in Miami-Dade County to receive verification.

“This verification from ACS further validates the quality of our trauma services,” said Scott Cihak, CEO of the KRMC.

Since establishing trauma services in November 2011, the KRM trauma center has treated more than 8,000 patients.

“I am proud of the trauma services we provide to the community as our team works hard every day to ensure that we provide the best possible care,” said Dr. Mark McKenney, director of the KRMC trauma services and general surgery residency program.

Trauma activities of the ACS are administered through an 83-member Committee on Trauma overseeing 3,500 people working to develop and implement meaningful programs for trauma care in local, regional, national and international arenas. The ACS works to improve care of injured patients before, during and after hospitalization. The verification process is voluntary and requires a trauma center to submit to a site visit to ensure that it has all required resources listed in the ACS verification manual. The KRMC is a 417-bed teaching hospital providing 24-hour comprehensive medical, Level II Trauma, burn, surgical, behavioral health, pediatric and diagnostic services, along with a wide range of patient and community services.

The KRMC has been nationally recognized with many prestigious awards, including HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence, Joint Commission Certification as a Primary Stroke Center, Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI, and US News and World Report recognition for receiving the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus award.
