Palmetto High School senior George Liu was awarded the $2,000 college scholarship given annually by the Pinecrest Business Association and funded by the Pinecrest law firm Panter, Panter, & Sampedro.

Liu was tapped to receive the check for being an outstanding high school student in Pinecrest with a minimum 3.5 grade point average. He was recommended for the scholarship by at least one teacher and his guidance counselor. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college or university of Liu’s designation.

“It is truly our honor to recognize George as this year’s scholarship recipient,” said Mitchell Panter, a founding member of the PBA. “He not only excels academically, but goes above and beyond to serve others through community service as well.”

“Every single one of the PBA members in attendance of this year’s scholarship awards presentation was in complete awe of George,” said Dr. Adam Clarin, president of the PBA. “His heartfelt acceptance speech earned him a standing ovation. This is a special individual; we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for him.”

Liu’s resume includes many accolades, including a first place at a district competition and third place at a state competition in the Introduction to Business Category for the Future Business Leaders of America; the VITAS Innovative Hospice Care Music Appreciation Volunteer of the Year Awards; and second place in the Euro Challenge at the state level. He also interned for Rep. Illeana Ros Lehtinen and this year serves as student council president.
