Gardens marks Earth Day; Jungle Book live on Banyan Bowl stagePinecrest has a long history of environmental sensitivity and activism both as a community and as a municipal government. For years, the Village has celebrated Earth Day by hosting a festival that incorporates Green initiatives from local schools and vendors, while providing a platform for learning, recreation and entertainment for the family.

Earth Day Festival, Sunday, April 27, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. — Come celebrate our magnificent planet; free admission! Enjoy a day of activities for the entire family, including workshops organized by the CLEO Institute, Wildlife Animal Shows, face painting, balloon artists, planting activities, green vendors, food vendors, crafts for kids, splash-and-play and so much more. The Earth Day Festival comes to a wonderful conclusion with a very special performance by the Greater Miami Youth Symphony at 4 p.m. in the Banyan Bowl. Jungle Book, The Musical — Miami Children’s Theater presents Jungle Book Kids on the weekend of May 2-4.

Jungle Book Kids is the perfect show for younger children with a running time of 45 minutes and no intermission. Jungle Book Kids is one of six Disney classics re-written by the creative team at Disney for younger audiences in mind. All the classic Jungle Book songs are there and the story line moves quickly. Miami Children’s Theater is one of the top young persons’ theaters in the nation and the talent level of our young actors will amaze your family. This production of Jungle Book Kids is directed by Elaine Flores and Darcy Hernandez, an talented artistic team that wowed audiences with MCT’s production of Pinocchio earlier this year.

Gardens marks Earth Day; Jungle Book live on Banyan Bowl stageThe Saturday May 3 matinee-performance of Jungle Book Kids will be a sensory- friendly production featuring reduced sound levels, quiet rooms, noise-cancelling head phones and aides who can assist families with seating. Show times are Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. (sensory-friendly show); Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for all performances, with the sensory-friendly show priced at $5. Krafts-4-Kids — Join us Saturday, April 26, from 2-3:30 p.m. for Krafts-4- Kids. This month, our program is entitled The Circle of Life…The Bats, the Birds the Bees and the Wind. Children will learn about the parts of a flower, what makes an orchid flower different from any other flower, how we evolve from flower to fruit and vegetables, edible flowers and pollination. In addition to class and crafts, we will hunt for some wonderful flowering finds in the Gardens. These are classes for children 6 through 12 years old. Classes are limited to 20 and the cost is $5, with all materials included. Call in advance for reservations at 305-669-6990.
