Each year the Cancer Support Community Greater Miami (CSCGM) hosts the annual Tee Off Fore Wellness Golf & Tennis Tournament at the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. This signature event has taken place for more than a decade and this year it expanded to include a second women’s tennis doubles tournament.

A total of 64 women turned out to play in the two tennis tournaments and raise money to fund free cancer programs for patients and their families enrolled at CSCGM. Volunteer charity tennis tournaments take place regularlythroughout Miami-Dade, but few can draw a sold-out roster of 64 players on one special day.

What was once a singular event consisting of a golf tournament geared primarily toward men has evolved into a multi-faceted sports charity day that now includes the golf tournament and two women’s doubles tennis tournaments. Tournament co-chairs Jane Forman, Kim Kaskel and Tracey Spiegelman have worked hard to create a premiere women’s charity tennis event in South Dade, with the help of a growing event committee, participating sponsors and in-kind donors.

“It is wonderful to be part of a charity tennis event such as this,” said Forman, a 25-year veteran of managing tennis events in Miami. “It was just great to see 64 women of all ages and abilities come together for a day of actionpacked tennis. These women really came out for these events and fought for the Crystal Cup, all while supporting a great cause.”

The tournament format consisted of an early morning doubles tournament with 32 players, immediately followed by another round of doubles, the Sandy Teter Invitational, created last year in memory of tennis ambassador Sandy Teter who died from cancer in July 2013.

The 2014 Tee Off Fore Wellness Tournaments and other fundraising activities generated $98,000 for the CSCGM. All of the money raised through the tournaments stays in Miami to support local efforts. John Arasi was the golf tournament chairman and the lead sponsor was Sharp General Contractors, with Steiner Leisure serving as the 19th Hole cocktail party sponsor.

Bancredito International Banking Corp. was the lead tennis tournament sponsor.

Additional Tee Off Fore Wellness Tournament sponsors included Aetna Insurance, Atlantic Doors and Hardware, Bacardi, Carnival Corporation, Dixie York Corporation, The Forman Family, Fowler Rodriguez, GEM Window Fashions, Meg Green & Associates, GYN Oncology of Miami/Dr. Nicholas Lambrou and Dr. Troy Gatcliffe, Home Design & Remodeling Show, John C.
