Born Free Pet Shelter fundraiser set for Feb. 5

By Lee Stephens….
The seventh annual fundraiser for the Born Free Pet Shelter is scheduled for Feb. 5, from 7-11 p.m., at the Key Biscayne Beach Club, 685 Ocean Drive.

The Born Free facility is a no-kill dog rescue center headquartered on five acres in the Redland community of Miami-Dade County. The shelter houses an average of 145 dogs each day and is operated by 81-year-old Alicia Aballi.

“This annual fundraiser is the only benefit event that we have during the year  to help keep Born Free going and help us pay the bills,” said Aballi. “We’ll have music and dancing, and food will be supplied by all the restaurants on Key Biscayne. There will also be a silent auction with a lot of art, jewelry, sports memorabilia and lots of other things.”

Tickets to the benefit are $85 each and corporate support is welcome. A  table for 10 is $800.
