The Movie Night feature is Disney’s hit, Frozen.

Once again Palmetto Bay is celebrating not just Earth Day, but Earth Week, with a range of events taking place from Apr. 21 to 26. Village officials will be visiting all local area elementary schools Apr. 21 through 23 to release thousands of ladybugs in the school gardens. Ladybug releases are always a big hit with the children.

Apr. 24 will see local fifth graders participating in an art poster contest with the theme “Green Cities.” The winning school will receive a visit from village officials for the tree planting ceremony.

In what will likely be one of the most popular events, it’s Movie Night on Apr. 25 at Coral Reef Park featuring Disney’s hugely successful animated movie Frozen. The movie was chosen overwhelmingly by those participating in a survey.

Residents are advised to bring blankets and lawn chairs for casual seating. Food will be available for purchase, or you can bring your own snacks. There is a ladybug release at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 7:30 p.m.

Two events are planned for Apr. 26.

In the first, Palmetto Bay residents can stop by Ludovici Park from 9 a.m. to noon and pick up a free tree (one tree per residence). Residents must provide their own transportation for the trees and saplings.

Ladybugs again will be distributed to village schools.

The second event for Apr. 26 is the “Bike Ride & Bike-B-Que.” The village is teaming up with the Town of Cutler Bay for a bike ride from Lakes by the Bay up Old Cutler Bike Trail and ending at Ludovici Park, followed by a complimentary barbecue lunch and fun activities. Free bike helmets will be provided. Residents must register prior to bike ride.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at Lakes by the Bay Park, 8551 SW 216 St. in Cutler Bay. Then comes a police-escorted 10-mile bike ride with a scenic stop at the Deering Estate Chinese Bridge and a brief presentation from an estate naturalist. Ludovici Park is located at 17641 Old Cutler Rd. in Palmetto Bay. After lunch, the police-escorted return bike ride is back to Lakes by the Bay Park.
