Palmetto Bay’s Village Policing Unit Commander Gregory Truitt was promoted within the Miami-Dade Police Department from lieutenant to major on Aug. 8.

Serving as the head of the village’s police since 2007, Truitt’s job as “chief” of the policing unit, which is part of the Miami-Dade County Police Department, is to supervise the village’s sworn officers and civilian employees dedicated to serving the residents of Palmetto Bay.

Major Truitt has been working with the Miami-Dade Police since 1984. Before joining the MDPD, he was with the City of Coral Gables and has served several police districts in Miami-Dade County as well as working investigations with the Criminal Intelligence Bureau and the Intergovernmental Bureau.

According to Bill Kress, village communications manager, “In July of 2011, Major Truitt earned the distinction of completing the highest possible police training by participating in a 10-week Command Officers Development course at the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute. We thank Greg Truitt for his continued service to this community.”

Truitt also is the Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 457, and is active in other community service projects as well.
