Joining the Village of Palmetto Bay staff is Vanessa Binns who was hired in July as the special events coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department.
She will assist Mary Fernandez, special events supervisor, in the planning, organizing and administering of all activities related to parks and recreation programming, special events and community outreach programs. Binns started right before two large-scale projects.
“When I came on board we had the Back to School event at Palmetto Bay Park, so that was the first event I was involved with, and then the Bridal Expo and renovation at Thalatta Estate,” Binns said. “I help oversee five parks.”
Born in Africa, Binns grew up in Casablanca and in Devon, England, the source of her British accent. She has lived in the Miami area since 1983 when she moved here to play tennis for the University of Miami on an athletic scholarship. Staying in the USA after college, she worked for Ticketmaster for more than 20 years and has a background in marketing, promotions and special events, which, in addition to her knowledge of sports, should help in her new position.
Binns said that she has found the residents of Palmetto Bay to be extremely charming and a wonderful community. She encourages the residents to stop in to see her, and to view the greatly enhanced facility at Thalatta Estate, where her office is located.
“This beautifully renovated mansion and gardens, with its breathtaking views of the water, will amaze anyone who visits,” Binns said. “I look forward to meeting and working with all future visitors and fulfilling their needs and expectations. Whether they are planning a wedding, special event, corporate event or just a visit, I will be here at Thalatta Estate to help and encourage all the locals to enjoy their park.”
Thalatta Estate is located at 17301 Old Cutler Rd. in Palmetto Bay. Vanessa Binns may be reached at 305-234-6386.
