Sgt. Peppers Subs, a favorite of locals in South Miami-Dade, made a comeback recently with a block party to remember.

The new sleek café-style location at 17225 S. Dixie Hwy. in Palmetto Bay hosted more than 100 local families and friends on Sunday Mar. 10, including Palmetto Bay Mayor Shelley Stanczyk. Village Councilmembers Joan Lindsay and Tim Schaffer also were in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The event was quite a success and we were delighted to have such a huge showing of support from customers old and new,” said Nelson Couso, owner of Sgt. Peppers Subs.

The food and fun were flowing, as was the live music and kids entertainment. The day also marked the culmination of the first annual Design Your Own Big One Contest. The winner Adrian Silveris, a local college student, won the Facebook contest with his original entry, the Adrian Asiago Beef Sub. Apart from the brand new iPad Mini and free dining for one year, Adrian’s sub now will be featured on the Sgt. Peppers Subs menu.

Other judges including the Burger Beast Sef Gonzalez, local food critic Bob Quesada and owner of Steve’s Pizza Alex Pena were on hand to make the final decision.

“I love Italian food, so I pulled the inspiration for my sandwich from the flavors used in Italian cooking,” Silveris said about his winning submission. “And I was very excited to share my sub with the judges, and now with Sgt. Peppers customers,” Silveris added.

Your traditional sub shop no more, the new Sgt. Peppers has added everything from oven-crisp flat bread barbeque chicken pizza, to delicious original recipe Paninis. And no worries to their die-hards, they’ve kept the old favorites like the grilled honey mustard chicken and ever-sopopular steak and cheese sub.

At the new location, you can expect the same exceptional service you came to love with a few new perks including an outside courtyard. And that’s not all. Throw in some free Wifi, flatscreen TVs, curbside pickup, and a super duper kids menu, and now you see why your fast-casual dining options just got even better.
