Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, executive director of Teach For America in Miami-Dade, recently received a Stevie Award in the “Best Executive – Non-Profit or Government” category for institutions with fewer than 100 employees. The Stevie Awards for Women in Business is an international competition that recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding women executives and entrepreneurs, and the organizations they run.

“It was an honor to be recognized with all these successful business women from various industries,” Fishman Lipsey said. “This award provides additional awareness of Teach For America’s mission to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity.”

Fishman Lipsey first joined Teach For America in 2004 as a corps member in New York City. She taught for two years, during which time she led her students to dramatic academic growth each year, and then joined the organization’s staff.

As executive director of the Miami-Dade region, she oversees Teach For America’s continued growth and expansion in the Miami-Dade region, where more than 150 corps members are reaching more than 10,000 students this school year.

Teach For America began placing corps members in Miami-Dade Public Schools in 2003 in order to address disparities in educational achievement between students in the county’s low-income neighborhoods and those in wealthier communities.
