Summer may be months away. however it is not too early to consider a summer camp for your child. Miami-Dade County is utilizing its world-renowned parks to create camps that will help parents combat the enticing allure of television, video games and other sedentary activities.

Managed by Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department recreation specialists and conveniently located at 31 parks throughout the county, “Live A Park Life Summer Camps” will run from June 8 through Aug. 14, (select sites open through Aug. 21).

The camps will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and offer 7:30 a.m. early drop-off and 6 p.m. late pick-up options. Parents are encouraged to register their children early online. However, families in need of financial assistance must register and apply for assistance in person at their selected park.

“Playing in the great outdoors fuels the body with fresh air and exploring nature in South Florida’s woods and beautiful waterways fires up the imagination like no video game can,” said Jack Kardys, Miami-Dade Parks director. “Science is proving the mental and physical health gains behind what we’ve known all along:Playing outside is adventurous fun that helps to develop a healthier, happier child, and that’s a priceless gift of nature that we’re proud to deliver in our parks throughout Miami-Dade County.”

Unlike traditional day camps, parents can mix-and-match their preferred options, so their children experience a new adventure each week throughout the summer.

Registration is available at any General or Specialized camp’s host park. Parents also can register their child for most of Miami-Dade County Parks’ exciting Summer Camps online. However, families in need of financial assistance must register and apply for assistance in person at their selected park.
