The community of Palmetto Bay ushered in the second day of the holiday of Hanukkah with the lighting of an innovative ice sculpture menorah on Dec. 9.

As the melting water began to cascade down the large candelabra, Mayor Shelley Stanczyk, Vice Mayor John Dubois and Councilmembers Patrik Fiore and Joan Lindsay had the honor of lighting the “candles” of the holiday. The street was crowded with local celebrants, all of whom brought greetings and insight into the holiday celebration.

Rabbi Zalman and Chani Gansburg of Chabad of Palmetto Bay welcomed the crowds at the parking lot at Old Cutler Road and SW 168 Street. The lively event was accompanied by joyous holiday music to which participants danced and sang along. Latkes (fried potato pancakes) and donuts, traditional Hanukkah foods, were served. Exciting raffles, children’s activities, and light up Menorah necklaces made the night fun for the whole family.
