Homestead florist Darenda Darnell-Garbarz of Designs by Darenda Flowers and Events was selected President of the Florida State Florists’ Association at their annual convention held at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel June 7-9. Darenda, a certified Master Designer, was also recognized with the 2013 Harry J. Killian Memorial Award for her contributions to the organization. She previously served as Vice President and represented Miami-Dade and Monroe counties as District 8 Director on the association’s board of directors.

Designs by Darenda Flowers and Events, located adjacent to Homestead’s Historic Business District at 240 South Krome Avenue, features exquisite fresh flower arrangements, orchid baskets, plants and unique gifts for all occasions. The family business, established in 1977, delivers daily throughout South Dade from Coral Gables to Ocean Reef and provides floral support for weddings and events from Miami-Dade through the Upper Keys. Selected by The Knot’s Wedding Channel as a Best of Weddings Florist in 2012 and 2013, her work has been featured on TLC’s “Four Weddings”, “Wedding Chicks” and “Style Me Pretty”.

The Florida State Florists’ Association, founded in 1921, is a professional trade association for retailers, wholesalers, growers, manufacturers, shippers and importers. Nationally, the floriculture industry is estimated by the U.S. Department of Commerce to be in excess of $32 billion.
