DARE Arts & Crafts Festival seeking artists and vendors

By Gary Alan Ruse….
The Village of Palmetto Bay’s Policing Unit is seeking area artists and vendors to participate in its annual festival to raise money for the DARE program.

DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) has been incorporated into village schools during the past three years. The unit is led by Officer Patience Glasko.

“This year we are having a fundraiser for the DARE unit at Coral Reef Park,” Glasko said. “This will be the second Arts and Crafts Festival and Farmers Market to raise funds for the program which relies solely on donations and grants.”

The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 to 5 p.m., at 7895 SW 152 St. in Palmetto Bay, and will feature various artists, food vendors, and music by Majic 102.7.

“The purpose of the DARE program is to enable students to take charge of their lives with emphasis on healthy, pro-social decision making skills regarding non-substance use and abuse,” Glasko said. “Students in the fifth grade at Howard Drive Elementary, Perrine Elementary and Coral Reef Elementary school are currently enrolled in the nine-week DARE program, which is followed by a DARE graduation upon completion.”

Free parking will be available at Coral Reef Park and alternately at St. Richard Catholic Church across the street.
