The Falls to Host Free Back to School Blast

Reebok’s Mountain High Running Camp in the mountain town of Mars Hill, North Carolina still has many spots open for its two separate sessions from July 9-14 and July 16-21. Girl Scout summer camp now has registration open to all girls from 5 to 17 years old. The camp starts on June 11. Girl Scout offers four camps for girls only and activities include hiking, swimming, weekly field trips, and overnight camping. Each week will have different themes such “Diamond in the Rough, “get Your Groove On, and “Camp Beverly Hills.” The fees are girl scouts is $90 per week, and for non-girl scouts it’s $100 per week.
Florida Film Institute to present a film education camp

Dade County Fair & Exposition makes selections for Youth Hall of Fame The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition has selected Natalie Buell, a student from Homestead Middle School, and Laura Eileen Irastorza from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy into the Walter B. Arnold Jr. Youth Hall of Fame. They were both selected based on exceptional and leadership in their communities. DADE’S ANIMAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT URGING RESIDENTS TO GET PETS’S VACCINES UP-TO-DATE
In response to an incident where a bat that attacked a dog in northwest Miami-Dade tested positive for the rabies virus, Miami Dade County Animal Service Department urges that residents make sure their pets’ vaccines are up-to-date. Also, as per Chapter 5 of the Miami Dade County ordinance, pets must be vaccinated against rabies virus using either one or three year vaccine, and as part of the Animal Service Amnesty Program, if a constituent received a citation for no vaccinating or licensing their dog prior to December 31, 2005, any citation will be waived in lieu of compliance. Gulliver Students Receive National Awards Gulliver Middle School’s eighth graders Victor Naziazeni and David Wilson have received National Awards from the Scholastic Arts and Writing Contest. This award is the highest honor as well as the largest and longest-running assessment and recognition program for visual arts in the United States. Naziazeni and Wilson will be presented with their awards during the Scholastic ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 15. In addition, their artwork will also be on display for an entire year in the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C.

House Bill 333 Doubles Homestead Exemption for Eligible Seniors in Miami-Dade and State Homestead Exemption for eligible seniors in Miami-Dade County and across the state have now doubled from $25,000 to $50.000 with the measure House Bill 333 passed by Governor Charlie Crist. The measure implements the constitutional amendment that doubles the local option for homestead exemption qualifying seniors at least 65 years of age and an income that does not exceed $23,414 in 2007.
