Commissioner Holmes Join Parents of Trayvon Martin at Book Bag Give-awayFriday, August 16, 2013, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin the parents of Trayvon Martin, were joined by Commissioner Timothy Holmes and volunteers, who distributed book bags and supplies to 200 kids who needed them at a back-toschool extravaganza held at Hanan’s Academic Development Center in Opalocka, through the Trayvon Martin Foundation established in memory of their son.

According to Fulton, Trayvon’s mother, “The Foundation was created to redirect negative energy and sadness into something positive. She noted that it was a very important day, because, “We get time to spend with the kids and give back to the community.” As Fulton distributed the book bags, she reiterated “the importance of educating our Children.”

Commenting on the investigation into their son’s death, Tracy Martin confirmed, “There’s a federal investigation, but They haven’t told us anything…We’re just letting God do his work.”

Many of the younger children were unaware of the Trayvon Martin’s story, but well informed older students and their parents were both amazed and appreciative for the generosity extended by Travon’s parents, in spite of their traumatic The youth were also treated to free food, games and a bounce house as a “jump-off” into the new school year.
