Hosted by Councilwoman Felicia Robinson Receives Positive Community Support and Achieves Success in Educating and Informing the Residents of the City

Councilwoman Felicia Robinson is resolved and determined to empower, educate and strengthen the citizens residing in Miami Gardens through a series of Economic Empowerment Summits. On Saturday, February 11th, she hosted Meet Me at the Summit, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Center, where Mayor Shirley Gibson and City Council members of the City of Miami Gardens presented a signed proclamation declaring “Protect Your Identity Day” for all residents and business owners.

This segment of the Economic Empowerment Summit highlighted simple but effective means and methods to avoid identity theft using the Federal Trade Commissions program of Detect-Deter- Defend. Information and materials for the session were donated by the FTC agency and other sponsors.

Councilwoman Robinson, who recognizes the many challenges that victims of identity theft have to deal with once it occurs, opened the session questioning the participants in the audience if” they been affected by or if they knew someone who had been a victim of identity theft?” Almost everyone in attendance acknowledged that they or someone they knew had been a victim. The shocking truth this simple question revealed was the sense of urgency we need in society to continue to provide ways and resources to educate the citizens in our community on how to protect themselves and their families from such egregious personal assaults on our character and names.

During the summit, business owners had an opportunity to tell the audience about their business and business opportunities. Councilwoman Robinson addressed business leaders and conveyed the message that “in these tough economic times and because of the uncertainty of the job market it is best to create your own opportunity by starting your own business and being in business for yourself.” She applauded all of the entrepreneurs who gave of their time, energy and expertise.

Hosting this event at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, allowed those attending the Summit to not only get their physical exercise but to exercise their minds as well. Many people came in and listened right after their workout and were treated to chair massages by Platinum Touch massage therapist.

Councilwomen Robinson is sincerly appreciative and grateful to all sponsors, guests speakers, and the community attendees who made this Summit worthwhile. Sponsors included, National Motor Club, Primerica, Limu, Dream Bakes, Sweet Scents, Park Lane Jewelry, Amway, Platinum Palms Touch, Passion Parties by Mona, S.E.E. Network, Hope Providers, Jamila’s Window to Africa, Designer Fragrances by Cheryl Johnson, Phoenix Business Builders, Habitat for Humanity and The Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle. A special thanks is in order for our guest speakers Calvin Hendricks, Carol Hope and Rev. T. Gerard Williams who presented during the Summit.

Plans are already underway for the next Economic Empowerment Summit, so kudos to the City of Miami Gardens and thanks to Councilwoman Robinson for being a visionary in times such as these.

See you at the Summit!!!
