BASS MUSEUM OF ART

A s the rustle and bustle of Art Basel Miami Beach dies down and the New Year begins, the Bass Museum of Art continues to be a Miami Beach institutional landmark with adult and children programming, concerts, events and inspired exhibitions.

In 2012, the Bass Museum of Art began tc: temporary contemporary, a city-wide public art project with a simple mission; for passerby’s to run into “art in unexpected places.” Sculptures, murals, sound installations, video and other interactive works of art, interrupt people’s daily routines and encourage thoughtful interactions with the city and its communities. Public art becomes a catalyst to appreciate the unique character of Miami Beach from the Art Deco façade of the Bass Museum to Frank Gehry’s New World Center, to the busy streets and boardwalk and the spaces in between.

Also, in 2012 The Bass Museum of Art continued its exhibition season with The Endless Renaissance: Six Solo Artist Projects. In diverse ways, the six artists invited to present solo projects reconsider objects and concepts from art history, showing how works and ideas transform over time and in front of different audiences. In video installations by Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook and Eija-Liisa Ahtila, traditional works of art are presented and reassessed by various audiences, engaging the works in their own terms. Barry X Ball’s interpretations of notable sculptures and Hans-Peter Feldmann’s manipulated paintings demonstrate contemporary examinations of art from the past. The works of Ged Quinn combine anachronistic references to art and literature to the strong traditions of landscape and still-life painting. Walead Beshty’s diverse works also maintain an awareness of their own histories, providing viewers a clear record of their provenance. The Endless Renaissance is on view until March 17, 2013.

Looking onward to 2013, on March 15 the Bass Museum of Art will open From Picasso to Koons,The Artist as Jeweler which presents exceptional and littleknown works of wearable sculpture by such artistic giants as Stella Bague, Roy Lichtenstein, Louise Bourgeois, Man Ray, Picasso and Jeff Koons. On Thursday, March 14 the Bass Museum of Art will host their annual fundraiser ‘A Night at the Museum’. This event is a showstopper and draws a crowd of Miami elite and is your chance to get a sneak peak at From Picasso to Koon, The Artist as Jeweler.

In addition to compelling exhibitions, the Bass Museum of Art continues it’s mission, to inspire and educate by exploring the connections between our historical collections and contemporary art with IDEA@thebass Family Days, Bass Babies and Buddies, Spring Art Camp, Art Club for Adults and numerous other children and adult programming. Also, in 2013, the museum will introduce ARTTALKS@thebass.
