Pro Wrestling Returns to Miami Beach

The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC), proudly managed by Global Spectrum, once a frequent destination for prowrestling events, was one of several South Florida venues selected to host an ancillary event for Wrestlemania XXVIII. WWE brought pro wrestling back to Miami Beach on the grandest of scales. The MBCC welcomed WWE’s most loyal fans in hosting Wrestlemania Fan Axxess from March 29th through April 1st. When it was announced that WrestleMania would be coming to Miami, many likened it economically to an event that South Florida is intimately familiar with, the hosting of a Super Bowl.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) did not fail to disappoint, putting together an impressive and diverse week-long schedule of events including everything from fashion, art and golf to unrestricted access to pro wrestling’s biggest stars. Diehard pro-wrestling fans flocked to Miami from all over the world to see one of the most well-attended and watched annual entertainment events. “We can’t give enough thanks to the WWE, the Miami-Dade Sports Commission and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau for working together to bring Wrestlemania to South Florida, for what is hopefully the first of many times”, said Global Spectrum’s GM at the MBCC Bob Balsam. “We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the over 21,500 patrons who were in attendance over the four days of Fan Axxess here at the MBCC.”

Axxess gave fans who attended many unique and interactive options to take part in the action and of course, to meet with some of their favorite WWE Superstars. Fans were able to “enter the ring” to the entrance music of their favorite wrestlers and receive a video of their entrance, view live matches up close and even test out some wrestling moves in actual rings. The MBCC marketing team added to the interactive nature of the event and its fanbase through use of its social networking presence on both Facebook and Twitter.

The MBCC utilized both from the beginning to help promote and generate buzz by posting show-approved sneak previews of the setup of the event and of some of the actual exhibits that fans would be able to experience.

Global Spectrum is no stranger to WWE events. Several of the over 100 venues that Global Spectrum manages host WWE events on annual basis and the company enjoys a great relationship with the WWE. Two years ago, Wrestlemania 26 was held in Glendale, AZ at the University of Phoenix Stadium, another of Global Spectrum’s managed facilities.

“Wrestlemania and the Fan Axxess event at the MBCC generated significant increases in revenues for businesses in the City of Miami Beach and the local community, while at the same time creating some nationwide visibility for the destination itself,” added Balsam.
