Miami Country Day School Spring Sports Wrap-Ups

Miami Country Day School Varsity Baseball 2014 The success that the Miami Country Day School Varsity Baseball team achieved this year will serve them well with the development of the freshman and sophomore class. Sophomore catcher Juztin Gross and sophomore RHP Jose Oronoz made great strides in their development. Underclassmen Jordan Sale, Jesse Grossman, Colton Katcher, Austin Pollak, Griffin Sennett, Kian Andersen and Patrick Basile will have a significant impact on the team’s future success. The contributions of outgoing seniors Adam Seif, Garreett Kramer, Steven Soriano, Michael Fente and Carter Weiss will be sorely missed.

Miami Country Day School Varsity Softball 2014 The Miami Country Day School Varsity Softball team exceeded many expectations and captured their first District Championship since 2006 by defeating rival Archbishop Curley. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Sennett was solid on the mound and at the plate all season. Junior catcher Jackie Lash was a rock behind the plate and helped the team with clutch hitting. Junior Elizabeth Finny and Senior Monica Howard solidified the infield and saw their batting averages rise significantly from last season. Seniors Amanda Gavcovich and Andrea and Veronica Serrano shored up the outfield with senior Viviana Velez performing as a powerful designated hitter.

Miami Country Day School Varsity Girls’Water Polo 2014 The Miami Country Day School Varsity Girls’Water Polo Team was small in numbers, but big on determination. Senior Nicole Halpryn was a steady leader that helped bring along the younger players. Eighth grade goalie Gabriella Palmisano was stellar and junior Sidney Thomas provided stability on offense and defense. With 11 players returning and the addition of the middle school players moving up to varsity, this team is poised to surprise many next season.

Miami Country Day School Varsity Boys’ Water Polo 2014 Miami Country Day School’s Varsity Boys’ Water Polo Team surprised many with their tough play despite having such a young team. Seniors Chris Thixton and Lorenzo Lionello led the team filled with 2 eighth graders, 13 freshman, 3 sophomores and 2 juniors. With this youth movement, this team will make waves for years to come.

Miami Country Day Boys’ Middle School Water Polo 2014 Miami Country Day’s Boys’ Middle School Water Polo program boasted some stellar athletes and exciting play. The team ended up with a record of 4-3 and a Conference Runner-Up finish.

Miami Country Day Girls’ Middle School Water Polo 2014 Miami Country Day’s Girls’ Middle School Water Polo team finished with a 4-3 mark and a strong contingent moving up to the varsity level. Miami Country Day School Varsity Boys’ Tennis 2014 The Miami Country Day School Boys’ Varsity Tennis team continued the tremendous success they have had over the past two decades and won their 17th consecutive District Championship. The team was led my seniors Shaun Berman and Alec Koss. Senior Matthew Kanter, juniors Max Cohan and Daniel Kassin, freshmen Alex Cohan and Alex Slezynger along with eighth grade up and comer Milan Bass rounded out this steady team. Shaun Berman qualified for States in singles and doubles for a fourth consecutive year and Alec Koss qualified for States in doubles for a fourth season in a row as well.

Miami Country Day School Varsity Girls’ Tennis 2014 Miami Country Day’s Varsity Girls’ Tennis Team found its groove as the season went on ending with a 9-7 record and won the District Championship for a second season in a row. Junior Megan Tate and her doubles partner Sasha Bass paced the squad. Celina Lindemann, Elizabeth Kasparaitis, Janna Sayfie, Jade Iadarola and Mariana Marulanda all contributed to the success of the season.

Miami Country Day Middle School Tennis 2014 Miami Country Day’s Middle School Tennis Program flourished this season as the boys finished with a 12-2 record with big wins over Palmer and Ransom along with a Conference Runner-Up finish. The girls’ had a 5-8 record with solid victories over Westminster Christian and Doctors Charter. The boys’ team was led by Evan Meiselman who finished with a 10-1 record. The boys’ team got fantastic contributions from Harrison Stier, Richard Anapolsky and Alejandro Wills. The girls’ squad was led by Lolita Bell and Skylar Carter. The boys’ team returns 7 players next season and the girls’ team returns 6 players, so the future of our tennis program is bright.

Miami Country Day Middle School Baseball 2014 The Middle School Baseball Team (8-10) began as a relatively inexperienced group, but finished the year very strong. The team advanced to the South Florida Middle School Conference semi-finals by beating Gulliver 4-3.

The team was led by Connor Goodman and Jorden Gross, who were the team’s top pitchers and RBI guys. Lead-off man Michael Mcpherson, led the team in hitting, Myles Berlowitz, Riley Weiss, Daniel Sayodkhuzhin, and William Seiden anchored a strong infield, and Liam Weil, Andre Rodrigues, Bobby Brunetti, and Julius Delgado were all eighth graders that patrolled the outfield.

Miami Country Day School Varsity Lacrosse 2014 While the Miami Country Day School Varsity Lacrosse team played a challenging schedule, but picked up steam as the season rolled along ending up with a 4-7 record. The team was led by seniors Sam Cohen, Henry Clements, Drew Hansen and leading goal scorer Jordan Karp. The team was dealt a blow when senior Pablo Vivas was injured early in the season and had to rely on young up and comers, juniors Pablo Mejia, goalie Paul Julien Giraud and Austen Weinberg.

Miami Country Day Middle School Lacrosse 2014 Miami Country Day’s Middle School Lacrosse team was hungry to get onto the field since the end of last season and it showed with a 12-5 record. The team ate up all of the coaching and improved each and every game. Ryan Finvarb, Blaise Pronesti and Sean Fuller were the top goal scorers and Matthew Hanson was the top defender.
