Miami Beach Chamber Member Wins 2010 Positive Living Award

The Alliance for Aging honored 14 outstanding individuals at the 4th Annual Positive Living Awards on Thursday, November 4, 2010. Among those winners was Dr. Carol Hoffman-Guzman, Founding Director of Arts at St Johns, for the award in Art & Music. Carol is a long-time resident of Miami Beach and member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Other 2010 winners included: Barbara Erickson, Animal/Wildlife; Marian Cline Krutulis, Education/Mentoring; Irving R. Eyster, Environmental Protection; Dr. Freeman Wyche, Faith/Interfaith; Liz Kern, Health Care; Cecilia Hunt, Inter- Generational; Max Silver, Legal; Allan Kolsky, Philanthropy; Gilda Rey, Positive Living; Sang Y. Whang, Public Service; Belkis Frangente, Sports and Entertainment; Owen S. Freed, President’s Distinguished Service Award for Excellence; and Robert Gintel, President’s Distinguished Service Award for Excellence.

With nearly 500,000 people age 60 or older, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties are national examples of America’s future. Older Americans make tremendous differences in the quality of life in South Florida by “giving back” to their community. Awards were presented in thirteen distinct areas – Animal/Wildlife, Art & Music, Education/Mentoring, Environmental Protection, Faith/Interfaith, Health Care, Inter-Generational, Legal, Philanthropy, Positive Living, Public Service and Sports and Entertainment. Two individuals were also honored with the President’s Distinguished Service Award for Excellence.

The Alliance for Aging, the Area Agency on Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to improving the lives of older people through funding more than $60 million annually to local community agencies. Through a network of providers, a wide range of services are provided to elders including meals, transportation, inhome services such as homemaking and personal care and services to caregivers. Answering more than 25,000 calls annually, the Alliance’s Aging Resource Center provides accurate information and referral services to elders and their families.
