On Wednesday, October 30, 2013, Jesse Panuccio, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, was the keynote speaker at the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Business Roundtable. The chamber is one of the oldest business organizations in Florida. Director Panuccio sat down with chamber members and local business owners for a roundtable discussion on economic policies, opportunities, and the overall state of Florida’s economy. He provided attendees with an overview of the economy including where it was during the recession and where it is now. He discussed the job increase of 1.8 percent over the last year and 1.6 percent decrease in unemployment rate.
During the roundtable, guests were able to voice their concerns and offer feedback to Director Panuccio to ensure the economy keeps moving in the right direction. Newly appointed to the department, it was a good opportunity for the Miami Beach business community to have some input and relevance as the director begins to look at the department’s agenda from a statewide perspective.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is the state’s lead agency for developing and sustaining a talented and successful workforce in Florida, implementing community and economic development policies and strategies for our state, and promoting economic opportunities for all Floridians. For the past year, DEO’s Executive Director Jesse Panuccio has embarked on a mission to speak to community and business leaders in Florida to provide an inside look into our economy and to generate ideas on ways community and business leaders can help our economy continue to improve.
Jesse Panuccio joined the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) as Executive Director on January 8, 2013. Prior to DEO, he served as the General Counsel to Governor Rick Scott where he managed legal affairs and staff of the Governor’s office, helped direct and coordinate litigation and legal policy across state agencies, advised the Governor on over eighty judicial nominations, and served as the Governor’s chief ethics officer. Before joining the Scott administration, Panuccio practiced law with the Washington D.C.-based firm Cooper & Kirk PLLC, and served as a law clerk to Judge Michael W. McConnell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
