42nd Annual Miami International Auto Show Introduces New Features to Big CrowdsThe Miami International Auto Show (MIAS) has been a November tradition here in South Florida for more than 40 years, giving car enthusiasts a first look at the newest models of many of the top manufacturers. Previously named the South Florida International Auto Show, it will be known going forward as the Miami International Auto Show. The new name was just a small part of all the changes and innovations that show organizers introduced at this year’s version.

While there were still plenty of new car models and favorite brands represented at this year’s show, there was also a newer blend of technology, education and exhibits with models that represent car owners’ specific lifestyles and preferences.

One of the biggest changes that attendees noticed while walking through the event was the emphasis put on technology and social interaction. For the first time, MIAS gave patrons an opportunity to interact with the show and other patrons via Twitter and Instagram while relaxing and charging their phones in the Social Media Lounge.

“The Social Media Lounge illustrates our special attention to technology, video content and social media this year,” said Rick Baker, Auto Show Manager. “We’ve modernized the look of the show, provided digital floor plans, installed Twitter screens all over and otherwise enabled the use of smart devices among visitors who get scattered. It’s communication on another level.”

MIAS also put a focus on the fast-growing environmentally conscious segment of the Auto Industry with the introduction of the Eco Experience exhibit. Alternative fuel vehicles have become a bigger focus and more affordable option for consumers during the last few years and those interested in these vehicles were able to get a closer look and take a ride in some of the best electric vehicles the industry has to offer. MIAS also made it convenient for current owners of EV cars by offering free parking and charging stations.

South Florida, with its year-round warm weather, is a perfect location to own and enjoy a convertible. With that in mind, MIAS created a special exhibit called Topless in Miami that showcased many of the best convertible models available today, in a bright and sunny beach themed setting distinct to South Florida. Attendees were able to get up close to convertibles such as the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster, the 500C Gucci Edition Fiat, and the XKRS Italian Racing Jaguar, just to name a few.

Fans of classic models were not disappointed either. MIAS also introduced the Havana Classics display at this year’s event. The Havana Classics section featured a unique group of antique cars from the 1950s. The featured car in this nostalgic exhibit was a 1956 Chrysler Windsor Newport but included many other favorite classics that celebrated the Cuban culture that is such a big part of South Florida.

The Miami International Auto Show is the first major auto exhibition of the season and is produced by the South Florida Automobile Dealers Association, a fourcounty group of 190 new car dealers from The Keys to the Palm Beaches. The 43rd edition of the Miami International Auto Show will be held November 8-17, 2013.
