WK Baptist Hospital names Chef Calvo its ‘Culinary Ambassador’

Expanding its commitment to healthful eating and great taste, West Kendall Baptist Hospital has appointed nationally recognized chef, restaurateur, television personality and author Adrianne Calvo its Culinary Ambassador. Calvo is proprietor of Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar in West Kendall.

Working in collaboration with Chef Edgardo Llopiz, executive chef of West Kendall Baptist Hospital and the Bamboo Café, Calvo will create signature dishes and special seasonal menus for hospital patients, employees and visitors that exemplify her quest for maximum flavor. She also will conduct on-site cooking demonstrations at the hospital and spread Baptist Health’s philosophy that nutritious food can delight the palate.

“We are fortunate to have such a talented culinary professional right here in our own backyard in West Kendall,” said Javier Hernández-Lichtl, CEO of West Kendall Baptist Hospital. “Chef Adrianne fully supports our Healthy West Kendall coalition, which challenges our residents to make a personal commitment to health and wellness. Good nutrition is a cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle, and Chef Adrianne will inspire us all to make wise food choices.”

“One of the joys of living in South Florida is having easy access to fresh, natural ingredients throughout the entire year,” Calvo said. Creating flavor-packed meals featuring local fruits and vegetables is my passion, and West Kendall Baptist Hospital has offered me an amazing platform for creativity. I can’t wait to see the results of our partnership on the plate.”

Born to Cuban-American parents in Chicago and raised in Miami, Calvo began her culinary business ventures at the age of 12 by baking chocolate chip cookies and selling them at school. While a student at Johnson & Wales University’s Miami campus, Chef Adrianne’s talent and drive led her to enter more than 40 national culinary competitions, capturing first place in 10 of them and runner-up in the rest.

Following her culinary school graduation in 2004, she became the youngest chef to work at the five-diamond Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami under the tutelage of executive chef Patrick Lassaque. She later traveled to Napa Valley, CA, where she sharpened her craft under Chef Thomas Keller and Chef Cindy Pawlcyn.

Calvo returned to South Florida and opened her own restaurant, Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar in West Kendall in 2007. She hosts a weekly cooking segment, “Maximum Flavor Live,” on NBC6’s lifestyle and entertainment show, 6 in the Mix. She also appears regularly on Univision and was a guest chef on Food Network’s hit series Chopped. She makes frequent guest appearances at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival.

Chef Adrianne is the author of three popular cookbooks, Maximum Flavor, Driven by Flavor Fueled by Fire, and her newest book, #MaximumFlavor Social.
