Rita Schwartz opened Upscale Furniture Consignment Gallery five years ago in the midst of the greatest recession since 1929.

In 2009, more than 7,000 furniture stores had closed their doors across the country, yet Schwartz, against all odds, decided to open a store, selling furniture, but with a twist — high end and gently used. Hence the name Upscale Furniture Consignment Gallery.

The store is located at 8845 SW 132 St. in “Shoppes By the Falls” warehouse district. The phone number is 305-491-5651.

When you first walk into this store, you immediately realize this is not the typical consignment shop that you might expect. Instead, your eyes start wandering to an amazing assortment of all types of furniture, of incredible quality. Better yet, there is 6,000 square feet of hidden treasures for you to explore for every room in your home or office.

Schwartz personally reviews every item that comes into her store. When customers want to consign a piece, she does meticulous research to make sure that each item is exactly as advertised. The store reflects Rita’s exquisite taste in furniture, as well as her knowledge about what types of furniture appeal to her customer base. It always is changing as new pieces arrive several times a week. That means, every trip to Upscale Furniture is a new exciting journey. What hidden gem will you discover today?

Another important aspect of this business are the prices as most items have been reduced by 70 percent of their original cost. Not only are there bargains galore, but the “upscale” quality of those items make a trip to the store a winning experience for you.

Schwartz also is very involved in the community. She has spent the past 20 years working to save the lives of animals and has raised more than $1 million to fund local animal rescue groups. She is the co-founder of Pets’ Trust Miami, an initiative that 500,000 in Miami voted to support, and is a well-known personality in the Miami-Dade community.

Against all odds, Schwartz not only has generated more awareness of the plight of our animals, but also created a hugely successful business by creating a niche that appeals to her thousands of customers.

If you are in the market for furniture, a stop at Upscale Furniture Consignment Gallery should be your first stop, “where vintage and class meet, at prices that can’t be beat!”
