If necessity is the mother of invention, then surely convenience is the daughter of appliance. Having just relocated his Sears Home Appliance Showroom from its London Square location to its current one, situated more centrally at 11780 N. Kendall Dr. (across the street from The Palms at Town and Country), owner Michael Myers wants to make sure that his customers’ convenience is put first above all else — something pronounced immediately by the four parking places in front of the store set aside for Sears customers only.
“We felt that the next evolution to reaching the Kendall Market would be Kendall Drive, the epicenter of retail for Kendall,” Myers said. “Our location is right off of the turnpike, so it’s very easy to find, and our exclusive, reserved parking means you can park literally 15 feet from the front door.
“We’re around competition, and we like being around competition, because we stand behind our prices, service, name and reputation, as no one does appliances better than the trusted name of Sears.”
Walking into the store, customers will take note quickly of its open and welcoming atmosphere. This hospitality extends past looks, however; visitors can expect to be offered freshly baked cookies, home brewed coffee, cold beverages and juice boxes for kids, who have a play area — complete with a small table and a TV — set up in the center of the store so parents can shop but still keep watch.
“It’s a very comfortable shopping environment,” Myers said. “It’s not like going to the big box stores where you’re either swarmed by a bunch of ‘red shirts’ or competing with forklifts driving behind you in a big warehouse, talking to someone who might know appliances but probably also sells electrical supplies and plumbing material. We know appliances — that’s our core.”
Sears offers more brands of appliances than any of their competitors, including the Kenmore brand exclusive to Sears, GE, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchen Aid, Bosch, Jenn-Air, Samsung, Amana, Frigidaire and many more. If their vast selection wasn’t enticing enough, their guaranteed low prices certainly are.
“We actually encourage customers when they come in, if there’s any doubt that they’re not getting the best price, we will sit down at our Solution Center and take them to one of our competitors’ websites,” he said. “As long as it’s a retailer with brick-and-mortar presence in South Florida, we’ll not only match their price, we’ll take off 10 percent of the difference as well.”
Though a locally owned franchise, the Sears Home Appliance Showroom is backed by the installation and delivery services of Sears, meaning that appliances are delivered to the customer’s home and installed by Sears professionals, generally the next day.
Although they specialize in appliances, the entire Sears catalog is available for in-store ordering, and purchases are shipped directly to customers’ homes — most with free shipping. Clientele with difficult schedules need not be discouraged; they make personal appointments. Customers need only go online or call the store and request a specific employee. They will even come to your home to help you measure, just to make sure everything will fit properly.
“We want to establish a convenient and familiar relationship with our customers,” Myers said. “If you want to come out at seven in the morning or at 10 p.m. and meet your preferred sales associate because you’re working during our regular hours, it’s a priority of ours to make that happen.”
