Skilled persistence by a Miami-Dade Police Kendall District detective led to recovery of an estimated $53,000 in computer parts last November.

The key role played by Det. Robert Jimenez occurred on Nov. 1, 2011 when an executive with an international firm, Anixter, called from a Georgia office asking for a trace on a shipment sent to a Kendall address.

“The shipment was received by a woman allegedly working for a company that the executive described as a ‘scam,’ according to a commendation letter from the Kendall District’s Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC).

Learning that DHL was handling the delivery, bound for outside the U.S., Det. Jimenez tracked down its location to a DHL office in Doral where Sgt. James Burchell of that city’s police force placed a “hold” on the shipment for recovery.

Det. Jimenez’s efforts won him the honor as “Officer of the Month” for the Kendall District for December 2011.

A citation praising his “performance, dedication and commitment to the department and the community” was signed and presented by CAC chair Barry White and Maj. James O’Donnell, Kendall District
commander.
