Kendall Hosts Two Miami-Dade Leaders, Incorporation Study Begins – in 24 Hours!

It wasn’t planned that way.

But all within a 24 hours, Apr. 23-24, Kendall will:

• Organize its first incorporation study in 10 years;
• Get an update on Miami-Dade schools from Schools Supt. Albert Carvalho;
• Hear a Kendall progress report from Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

 

6 p.m., Apr. 23: WK MAC Study Begins

Three major Kendall events in 24 hours will take place from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Apr. 24 when a new seven-member West Kendall Municipal Advisory Committee holds its first meeting to set an agenda for mapping out a potential city between S. W. 137 and S. W. 237 Ave., south of Kendall Drive.

Open to the public, the meeting at Kendall Lakes Branch Library, 15205 S. W. 88 St., will introduce its volunteer members who include Monica Colucci, Wilson Cristancho, Libby Perez, Enrique Piniero, Raul Andres Pino, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Ericka Santamaria.

The order of business: Election of a Chairman, Vice-Chair and Secretary; discuss the Sunshine Laws and how it applies to MAC members; discuss a work plan and set its next meeting date. The new MAC proposed by Commissioner Juan C. Zapata was appointed in December 2013 to succeed a former MAC committee that disbanded due to lack of public interest in 2003. 12 p.m., Apr. 24: Carvalho at GKBA Luncheon

Miami-Dade School Supt. Albert Carvalho, recently named the National School Superinendent of the Year, will update the Greater Kendall Business Association on Kendall and MDC school affairs Thursday, Apr. 24 at the organization’s monthly luncheon.

His report, sponsored on behalf of the Read2Succeed program, is expected to draw a capacity crowd to the Grand Salon of Killian Palms Country Club, 9950 S. W. 104 St., with registration beginning the noon program at 11:30 a…m. Special reports will precede Carvalho’s introduction by GKBA Chairman of the Board Julie Rico.

The noon luncheon, always scheduled the last Thursday of the month, is open to members ($35) and non-members ($45) if tickets are purchased at the door, or with a $10 saving if purchased through the GKBA office prior to Apr. 24. 7 p.m. Apr. 24: Gimenez at KFHA

Mayor Carlos Gimenez will make his annual appearance in Kendall as featured speaker at a Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations town meeting, Thursday, Apr. 24 at the Kendall Village Center Civic Pavilion, 8625 S. W. 124 Ave. in front of the Regal Theater complex. After his introduction by KFHA President Michael Rosenberg, Gimenez will provide a general commentary on Kendall and Miami-Dade school affairs, then answer questions from the audience in an open forum for public discussion. “The KFHA takes positions on issues of public concern and brings government officials to meet the people,” said Rosenberg, noting that KFHA Board Members currently has two openings on its Board of Directors.
