The Junior Orange Bowl awarded six scholarships to student athletes at the annual Miami-Dade County Public Schools Scholar Athlete Luncheon, where one male and one female student from 37 Miami- Dade County Public Schools were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements.

The Junior Orange Bowl awarded four scholarships to students who participated in the sports of tennis, golf, cross country, or basketball and two additional scholarships to students who participated in tennis.

Dr. Robert Bueso, the 2013-14 Junior Orange Bowl president, presented scholarships to the following students: Betty Poler, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High, GPA 5.193, basketball; Cedric Hankerson, Coral Reef Senior High, GPA 5.675, basketball; Erika Foreman, Miami Killian Senior High, GPA 5.132, cross country, and Dennis Perez, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High, GPA 6.319; basketball and volleyball.

Dr. Bueso also presented the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Scholarship to Cassie Pough of Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, GPA 5.1, tennis, and Zephry Wright of Miami Northwestern Senior High, GPA 5.578, tennis.

The Junior Orange Bowl Scholarship program annually awards more than $13,000 in scholarships to Florida high school student-athletes. Each December, the Junior Orange Bowl Scholar-Athlete Committee, headed by JOB vice president Charles Knight, awards $6,400 to 16 student- athletes who competed in the FHSAA Football State Championship games.

The Junior Orange Bowl is set to begin its 65th “Diamond Jubilee” Anniversary Festival Season. The 2013-14 festival will consist of more than 15 athletic, academic, and cultural events for youths featuring the Junior Orange Bowl Parade through downtown Coral Gables.
