Area Stage Company, 1560 S. Dixie Hwy. #103, is presenting the professional student production of Into The Woods by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim through Aug. 16.

The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make in this amazing theatrical journey, one of Sondheim’s most popular works.

This musically sophisticated show takes everyone’s favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

The show is directed by Carbonnell award-winning director John Rodaz; musically directed and conducted by Rick Kaydas, and choreographed by Kelly Shook. Set design is by Jodi Dellaventura and lighting design by John Rodaz. Stage manager is Luisa Rodriguez.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 and $25; students, $10. Phone 305- 666-2078.
