On March 19 and 20, the South Florida Palm Society will host the 2011 Spring Palm Show and Sale featuring “The World’s Largest Sale of rare and exotic palms.”  This sale will be held at Montgomery Botanical Center.  Parking and entrance to the sale is at Gulliver Academy, 12595 Red Road.   Montgomery Botanical Center is home to a world-class research center and collection of palms and cycads on 125 acres of beautiful grounds that are a well kept secret in Coral Gables.

Sale hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday.  Admission to the sale will be free.  Throughout the weekend, MBC staff will be offering guided tours of its plant collections for $5 dollar contributions per person and free to children under 16 accompanied by an adult.

Over 20 different vendors will offer over many different varieties of palms and cycads from all over the world. Literally thousands of rare and unusual plants will be offered for sale. There will also be an information table where visitors can ask questions about the proper methods to grow a variety of palms.  Free seeds will be available at the information table and a free palm seedling will be given to every guest while they last.  In addition, there will be several artists displaying their palm artwork.

Guests are invited to attend South Florida Palm Society general meetings held in the Garden House at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden at 7:30 pm on the first Monday of every even-numbered month. The next general meeting will be held on April 4. Information about our meetings and other events can be found on the SFPS website at www.southfloridapalmsociety.com.
