Amy Alvarado Palmetto Bay resident and accomplished soprano Amy Ioné Alvarado will perform in a special operatic concert, “The Voices of Opera,” on Friday, Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m., at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Pinecrest.
Presented by the Reve of the Arts, a nonprofit organization, the concert also will feature tenor Matthew Maness, from Miami; mezzo-soprano Jennifer Maurel, Coral Gables, and bass baritone Clayton Mathews, Miami Shores. A graduate of Florida International University School of Music, Alvarado currently is director of Vocal Studies at the Miami Conservatory of Music. “I am very excited to be performing a recital at my home parish at Saint Louis Catholic Church once again, only this time with a stellar cast of singers beside me,” Alvarado said. “My colleagues and I met in college and singing in the Florida Grand Opera chorus together. This is our first recital performing together. In addition, this is my first recital singing repertoire as a soprano and I am very delighted to share this experience with the music lovers in Miami-Dade.” Maurel, also a graduate of Florida International University, performs with local companies such as Pro Arte Gratelli. Maness is a senior at New World School of the Arts College. Mathews is a graduate of the Barry University vocal program and has performed at various venues in South Florida singing major operatic roles such as Colline in La Boheme and Giorgio in I Puritani. All have performed in various productions with the Florida Grand Opera as chorus members. In November they all will be part of the 2009-10 season double bill of Suor Angelica and I Pagliacci. Alvarado and the other talented young vocalists have a passion for opera in Miami and will celebrate it in “The Voices of Opera,” featuring arias from Verdi’s La Traviata, Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s La Boheme, and many others. They will be accompanied by Elaine Rinaldi, collaborative pianist and artistic director of Orchestra Miami. Alvarado is excited about the opportunity to perform in this concert, especially for anyone new to operatic style. “With this concert, we hope to reach out to audience members who have never had the opportunity to hear opera music and create a multi-sensory experience for them,” Alvarado said. “We want to educate the younger generation and enlighten them by showing that opera music is cool. We want them to experience our emotive melodious sounds and touch their hearts and souls with it. After all, for me that is what music is all about.” Saint Louis Catholic Church is located at 7270 SW 120 St. in Pinecrest. Donations are $10 in advance if made online at <www.TheReveArts.org >, or $15 at the door.
