The City of Homestead is celebrating the continuing progress of its bold Downtown revitalization project with a Demolition Kick Off Ceremony.  The demolition will clear the way for an expanded Losner Park—part of an overall effort to bring new life to Downtown Homestead with a series of civic and community ventures.  These include the construction of a new City Hall and new Police Station, as well as the restoration of the historic Seminole Theatre as a cultural arts center.

Directly between the new police station and the revitalized Seminole Theatre, will be an expanded Losner Park.  This new civic plaza will provide an ideal place for people to gather for outdoor movies, community events, or just a relaxing day at the park.  Already, architects have been hired to create a plan for this exciting new community space.

Sasaki Associates is a world-renowned architectural firm that incorporates many disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, graphic design, and civil engineering to create collaborative and innovative designs.  Their projects range from master-planning the 2015 PanAm Games in Ontario to designing the US Capitol Visitor Center.  Moving forward, Homestead’s Mayor and City Council will be working hand-in-hand with the firm and city staff to create the design and plan for the expansion of Losner Park.

The kick-off to the Losner Park expansion comes in the midst of Downtown Homestead’s continued progress to the future.  Earlier this year, Homestead Police Department moved from a dangerous building into a new temporary facility, the new City Hall is nearing completion ahead of schedule, and the much-anticipated opening of the Seminole Theatre will occur this fall.
