Patricia_Fairclough_and_Raquel_BuenoDuring the July 2014 Special Council Presentation, Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough saluted the efforts of a fellow educator by recognizing the achievements of National Migrant Teacher of the Year, Raquel Bueno.

“I would like to recognize an educator this evening who has been an invaluable asset to our community,” said Councilwoman Fairclough. “She hails from very humble beginnings, having had to help her family at a very young age by working the fields alongside her 8 siblings. Today, she works tirelessly in the classroom to ensure that her migrant students get a fair shot at success.”

Raquel Bueno has been an educator for the last twenty-four years and was recently honored as the recipient of the National Migrant Teacher of the Year Award.

Said Mrs. Bueno, “I am privileged to work with an amazing group of children and families that I empathize with, being the child of migrant workers myself. I am also blessed to be able to work with a team of professionals that make sure that these kids are not forgotten.”

Added Councilwoman Fairclough, “Your passion and dedication for the academic achievement and personal growth of your students is truly admirable and they are fortunate to have you. All the best to you.”
