Atala Montessori School for Creative Expression hosted its Grand Opening Celebration August 28, 2010. Located on the Art South campus in Homestead, Atala offers an arts-based Montessori curriculum. More than 240 persons attended the event.
The unique curriculum of Atala Montessori has attracted numerous students, especially in light of public schools closing music, art, and drama departments nationwide. “As a co-founder and a grandparent of an Atala student, I am proud of the richness of the program we are offering. We have experienced artists onboard to teach various art forms in all of our classrooms, and all this is in addition to our traditional Montessori education,” says Lower Elementary Director Patricia Howarth, who has been a Montessori teacher for over 30 years.
Atala Montessori serves children from 18 months of age through 6th grade. In addition to a traditional Montessori education, the curriculum includes art, music, computers, science, agriculture, and physical education, a Spanish immersion classroom, and a wide variety of after-school activities including guitar lessons, singing, painting, drama, and martial arts. According to Preschool Director and cofounder Beatriz Scheff, “Preschool and toddler children are especially receptive to language development, and we introduce Spanish reading, writing, and comprehension to the children in a fun, creative way, using everyday language.”
Grand Opening festivities began at 11:00 am with a tour of the newly renovated facilities, followed by food, art activities, live music, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Atala Montessori School for Creative Expression is located at 240 N. Krome Avenue in Homestead. For additional details, please telephone (786) 738- 1210 or visit www.atalamontessori.org.
