The rebirth of Aeroponics

We’ve all heard the old adage, “everything old is new again.” Well, that statement could not be any truer then when it comes to aeroponic growing.

Dating back to biblical times, the ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon’ were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. These magnificent gardens were a present by King Nebuchadnezzar to his wife, Amyitis, who was homesick for the lush plant filled landscape of her native country.

The Hanging Gardens had plants cultivated above ground level, with its roots exposed rather than planted into the earth. Streams of water flowed down vertical channels which irrigated the entire garden saturating the roots of the plants keeping the whole area moist, green and succulent.

This was the ancient beginning of what we today refer to as aeroponic vertical growing. It is the newest way for us to be able to grow our own healthy garden of fruits and vegetables without a field to plant in or the need for soil.

This concept should not be too foreign to us, just think of the magnificent orchids that dot our landscape, attaching themselves to trees with their roots exposed. Mother Nature is brilliant and now we get an opportunity to copy one of her natural wonders.
