The Deering Estate at Cutler will offer free admission to all guests on Sunday, July 20; Saturday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of the annual fee-free “PLAY” Days.
Guests can enjoy complimentary admission as well as hands-on science activities and historic house tours — all for free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
The fee-free PLAY Days were created to honor the Deering Estate’s partner organizations and the community. Partner organizations and program partners will be onsite providing information and a variety of activities.
On July 20, the Village of Palmetto Bay and its residents will be honored. On Aug. 16, teachers and environmental educators will be honored. On Sept. 20, the Scouts will be honored. The entire public can enjoy a variety of programs and activities — all for free.
Guests are invited to “PLAY” (Preservation, Learning, Adventure, Year- Round) and enjoy the many tours, educational programs, and special events that the estate has to offer. Activities and programs on Sunday, July 20:
Historic House Tours at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m.;
“Birthday Bash” — Charles Deering was born on July 31, 1852. Join in celebrating his birthday by signing a card which will be presented to the 100 Ladies of Deering at their next monthly meeting. Also learn about the different birthday party packages that are offered at the Deering Estate;
Tropical fruit display provided by Fruit and Spice Park;
Yoga demo class for adults with Zamanta Archibold at 10:30 a.m. in the Royal Palm Grove; Yoga demo class with Debie Lee in the Royal Palm Grove: 11:30 a.m. — Mommy or Daddy and Me (parents and children up to 6 yrs. old), 1 p.m. — ages 7 to 12, 2:30 p.m. — ages 13-17;
GroveHouse Artist exhibit and display booth — Displayed throughout the historic homes, the GroveHouse Artist exhibit highlights award-winning pieces from the annual Affair En Plein Air, a two-day outdoor juried painting event;
Guests can bring their expired or nonexpired prescription medications to be recycled by Covanta Dade Renewable Energy Ltd.
