FIU Faculty, students, and “Music in Need” grant winners from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools present an evening of community music making. Proceeds benefit music programs at local public schools. Open to the public. Details to be announced.

Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences invites the community to join in celebrating the season with a concert of holiday favorites and music from around the world. The concert will feature performances by the Bossa Nova Chorale, singing songs of peace in eight different languages—such as Hebrew, Latin, French, and Swahili—as well as choral music spanning from the 14th Century through contemporary hits, including well-known Christmas songs and pieces celebrating Hanukkah.
The Grove Green Market supports healthy living and encourages sustainable growing practices by bringing local farmers to Coconut Grove. All participating farmers and vendors are located within just 40 miles of the District. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, the market will also feature vendors selling local honey, jams, olive oils, artisan breads, grass-fed beef, seafood, spices, and juices.

AFP Miami and South Florida Network of Blacks in Philanthropy will host a workshop that will explore the factors that influence giving and the motivation behind Hispanic philanthropy. This workshop is designed to increase the understanding and motivations behind Hispanic philanthropy, whereas attendees will learn how to engage and involve the Hispanic community in identifying and developing leadership capabilities in the area of philanthropy. We will discuss what works and what does not when organizations strive to engage Hispanic philanthropic donors and volunteers.
According to the latest poll, 82% of voters support legalizing medical marijuana. If the language for the ballot initiative gets past the Florida Supreme Court, voters will have their say in November 2014, when they’re asked to approve the amendment to the state Constitution.
