Summer is here and families from all over are migrating to South Florida to enjoy the beautiful miles of beaches, lakes and grandiose pools. However, this also makes South Florida at high risk for accidental deaths caused by drowning, especially for children who do not know how to swim. Help take preventative action and take the pledge this summer by participating in the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade and Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund’s iSwim for Jenny fundraising event, August 10-16, 2013, at participating Miami-Dade Parks and community pools.
iSwim for Jenny is a week-long swim fundraising event where swimmers of all levels, ages and abilities swim a cumulative number of pool laps in exchange for monetary donations from pledges and donations from friends and family. All monies raised during iSwim for Jenny will benefit the Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund to educate children on water safety information and provide learn-to-swim scholarships for underserved children in South Florida.
Swimming must be done at your neighborhood lifeguard community pool** and/or one of the Miami-Dade Parks aquatic facilities/donation collection sites, listed below:

The Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund was created in honor of Jenny Hong Nguyen, a 12-year old girl from South Florida who lost her life on April 16, 2011 when she entered water too deep for her swimming skills. Many children do not know how to swim and are not informed on the importance of safety in or around bodies of water. The Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade established the Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund in order to create an opportunity for as many children as possible to attend beginner learn-to-swim lessons, regardless of the family’s income.
Nationally, drowning is the second-leading cause of injury-related death among children ages one to 14. Florida has the second-highest number of drowning incidents in the U.S. and Miami-Dade County leads the state in drowning deaths with an average of 45 a year.
Become an active member of the community and make a team effort to save lives. For more information on how you can register as an iSwim participant, to download a pledge form, for rules and regulations, or to make a donation, please visit www.swimforjenny.org.
