Nova Southeastern University Motion for the Ocean 5K Run/Walk

The first ever Motion for the Ocean 5K Run/Walk will be held Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at the Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center (NSU-OC).  The event partially funded by the NSU Pan Student Government Association as a fundraiser and hosted by the NSU-OC Student Government Association.  Cost for participation in the race is $20 for early registration and $25 the day of.  This includes a race t-shirt for all participants and official timing services.  For registration please visit http://www.active.com/5k-race/dania-beach-fl/motion-for-the-ocean-5k-run-walk-2013.  For questions and more information please email motionforocean@mail.ocean.nova.edu.

Nova Southeastern University Welcomes “America’s Greatest Living Playwright”

Nova Southeastern University welcomes celebrated playwright Edward Albee as part of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ 2012–2013 Distinguished Speakers Series.

Albee is perhaps best known for his 1962 drama Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It received both the Tony and New York Drama Critics Circle awards and is widely considered a classic of American contemporary theatre.

The FIU New Music Ensemble specializes in the performance of contemporary chamber, experi-mental, and electronic music, with an emphasis on music of the last 50 years. Over the course of the present program, the musicians of the NME embark upon a travelogue of Eastern European mu-sic in all its many guises. From arch-modernists to minimalism, refugees to émigrés, this evening's concert truly runs the gamut and we welcome you on an exciting journey!

Jason Calloway, cellist and director of the FIU New Music
Ensemble, has performed to acclaim throughout North America, Europe, and the
Middle East as soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared at festivals
including Lucerne, Spoleto, Darmstadt, and Casals, and gave his Carnegie Hall
recital debut under the aus-pices of Artists International. A devoted advocate
for new music, Mr. Calloway has premiered hundreds of works and collaborated
intensively with many of today's leading composers, including Birtwistle,
Carter, and Lachenmann. He values his work with Pierre Boulez and the Ensemble
InterContemporain, and is also artistic director of Shir Ami, an ensemble
devoted to Jewish art music. Mr. Calloway currently serves as cellist of the
Amernet String Quartet, in which capacity he is Artist-in-Residence at Florida
International University, where he teaches cello and chamber music.

UHealth at Plantation Lecture Series continues in March featuring some of the best medical minds of today.  From inside South Florida’s most advanced medical care center, the doctors of UHealth will share with the public the latest advancements in prevention, therapy and comprehensive technology.  Medical innovations such as Urologic Oncology, Thyroid Disease management, fertility treatment and clinical cancer treatment trials will be discussed across the coming five weeks.

The lecture will feature Dr. Israel Wiznitzer, M.D., Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Oncologist.

The exhibit, Gazing at the Contemporary World: Japanese Photography from the 1970s to the Present, will be on display at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center from March 5th through April 12th. Come see stunning cityscapes and intriguing glimpses into Japanese lives during the rapid economic growth of the 1970s through the dawn of the 21st century. This exhibition includes more than 75 prints taken by 23 photographers focusing on two related themes. “A Changing Society,” and “Changing Landscape.”
