"If they live in Miami long enough, even the whitest Midwestern girls will get a little Cuban in them — literally, figuratively, or both. But excluding a questionably legal Jay-Z and Beyonce-style trip down south, life in Miami is still just short of actual immersion. But at this weekend’s Taste of Cuba Festival, enthusiasts of all things Caribbean can nosh on lechón asado, drink rum, and listen to tunes by bands who once took the stage at the Tropicana. It doesn’t get much more authentic without a boat trip. More than 14 performers will belt out Cuban tunes; seminars will school attendees on making proper mojitos and whipping up Cuban grub; domino masters will go head to head; art enthusiasts will chat up curators of Cuban aesthetics — all amid copious quantities of authentic eats and drinks. How better to see Cuba for yourself, while still legally in the 305"?
