Movies on the Plaza presents: The Pianist, a film based on the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish Jewish classical pianist who struggles to survive the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto of World War II. As Wladyslaw and his family are selected for deportation to a Nazi concentration camp, Wladyslaw goes into hiding in an apartment provided by a friend. However, when his friend goes missing, Wladyslaw is left to fend for himself and he spends the next several years dashing from one abandoned home to another, desperate to avoid capture by German occupation troops.

The Miami Science Museum Young Patrons group invites young professionals aged 21-45 to join them for a talk with representatives from the San Francisco, Calif.-based branding and design firm Eight Inc. Eight Inc. is creating the flexible furniture system and design for the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session, as well as an exclusive look at the Museum’s new prototype area. Guests will enjoy cocktails and light bites.

Starlight Children’s Foundation™ Florida will be celebrating this milestone anniversary with the inaugural launch of Starlight’s Fashion Scene Miami, an authentic runway fashion experience presented by Northwestern Mutual, being held on October 17, 2013 at the LMNT Arts in the heart of Miami’s Design District.
Presented by Northwestern Mutual, members of the South Florida community are cordially invited to attend Fashion Scene Miami. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, LMNT Arts is hosting this soiree featuring a runway presentation, food, spirits, incredible artwork, couture fashion, live entertainment, some of South Florida’s top chefs, and more. Fashion Scene Miami features a full designer runway presentation of International culture; a fashion collective of pop-up boutiques; succulent spirits and culinary delights from local restaurants; incredible photos, artwork and more. 100% of the proceeds raised will benefit Starlight Florida, a 501c3 organization, which supports kids from hospital to home.
The annual Leighton Law “Sex, Drugs & Violence” seminar on October 17 will focus on inadequate premises security and violent crime civil litigation in Florida. Along with providing a wealth of relevant information, attendees will also receive five CLE credits, four of which are for civil trial certification.

Junior Miami Science Museum members will be utilizing their love of engineering, costume designing and carnivals to create pieces for the Cardboard Carnival at the museum. Participants and their families at this members-only event will create their own carnival rides, costumes, food stands and more out of cardboard. Miami Science Museum will provide materials, as well as snacks and refreshments.
